Congratulations to the Penn High School Academic Super Bowl Social Studies Team and Coach Peter DeKever on a third consecutive state championship.
Congratulations to the Discovery Middle School Academic Super Bowl English Team and coach James Howard on their first place finish in the state and to Discovery Middle School Academic Super Bowl Math Team and coach Michelle Crawford for their state runner-up finish. Kudos to the Grissom Middle School Science Team for a fourth place finish with coach Jan Caudell.

Dr. Seger named 2012 Indiana School Business Official of the Year
Dr. Denise Seger, associate superintendent at Penn-Harris-Madison School Corporation, has been honored as the 2012 Indiana School Business Official of the Year by the Indiana Association of School Business Officials (IASBO). Denise is recognized throughout the state as an expert on school budgets and the complex school funding formula.
Lavon Dean-Null honored as 2012 P-H-M Teacher of the Year
Lavon Dean-Null began her teaching career at Discovery Middle School in 2003 and has been teaching seventh grade social studies since 2006. She has taught English in Korea and traveled to China with Discovery students and parents. Last summer, she went to Mongolia and this coming summer she will travel with students and parents to France, Germany and Switzerland. She serves as a Red Cross volunteer with the Refugee Resettlement Program.
Mary Cook recognized as 2012 Classified Employee of the Year
Mary Cook loves people, especially children, and since January 2001, she has been applying her enthusiasm for children to Kids Club, the Penn-Harris-Madison childcare program. When Mary was hired, Kids Club provided before-and-after-school childcare during the school year only. In 2007, the program made a major transition to year round and now it provides childcare over holiday breaks and during the summer months.
2012 summer camps include sports, theater, robotics and more
Each summer, Penn-Harriis-Madison offers a variety of fun-filled summer camp experiences for students. Camps in cheerleading, boys' basketball, wrestling, softball, volleyball, baseball, boys' and girls' soccer, tennis, girls' basketball, football, track, pom pons, fitness program, and color guard provide students with opportunities for learning and fun.
Summer school schedule announced
The summer school schedule for Penn-Harris-Madison students has been finalized with a special early session for third grade students who need extra help to pass the IREAD-3 assessment. Students who did not pass this test in March will be invited to attend. Elementary students who need additional help building their academic skills will
Registration for kindergarten is underway
Registration for kindergarten is underway. A parent or guardian can register a child at the elementary school he or she will attend and all elementary schools offer full-day kindergarten. Elementary school offices at Bittersweet, Elm Road, Horizon, Madison, Mary Frank, Meadow’s Edge, Northpoint, Prairie Vista and Walt Disney are open between 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. and at Moran and Elsie Rogers the offices are open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Six P-H-M schools awarded Four Stars
The Indiana Department of Education has announced the 2010-2011 Four Star Schools and Penn-Harris-Madison has six; Discovery Middle School, Horizon Elementary School, Madison Elementary School, Northpoint Elementary School, Prairie Vista Elementary School and Schmucker Middle School. Indiana has 1,780 public schools and only 162 of them earned Four Star status. A Four Star school must fall into the top 25th percentile for End of Course Assessment passing percentages when compared with schools statewide.

Limited space remains for non-resident students
While we continue to accept applications from non-resident students until June 29, 2012, there are very few spaces still available for new students. We welcome applications from students in good standing and there is no tuition transfer fee. Families must provide transportation to and from school. Please do not withdraw your child from your current school until he or she has been accepted at Penn-Harris-Madison.
